What the countdown counts
The countdown on the homepage runs to the first fast of Ramadan 1448 AH, using the projected start date of 8 February 2027. It updates every second and shows days, hours, minutes and seconds remaining.
How your location is used
The Sehri and Iftar counter beneath it needs to know where you are, because sunrise and sunset differ by hours across the world. The site works this out in the least intrusive way available:
- If you have chosen a city before, that choice is used.
- Otherwise your browser’s time zone is read. This needs no permission and identifies only the zone, not your address.
- You can tap Use my exact location to let the browser supply coordinates, which are matched to the nearest city in our list.
- You can always search for and pick your own city instead.
None of this is sent to our servers. The chosen city is stored in your own browser so the site remembers it next time.
Why the countdown may be a day out
Because the countdown is built on a calculated date, it inherits the same uncertainty as the date itself. If your country announces Ramadan a day earlier or later, your first fast will not match the counter exactly. The counter is a planning aid; the announcement is the authority.
After Ramadan begins
Once the first fast arrives, the panel switches to a live Sehri and Iftar counter for your city, with a progress bar showing how much of the day’s fast has passed and how long remains until Maghrib.
On the dates: every date on this page is an astronomical projection based on the Umm al-Qura calendar. The observed start of Ramadan is decided by the sighting of the crescent moon or by the announcement of the relevant authority in each country, and can differ by a day. Follow your local mosque or national committee for the binding date.
