What the timer means
The timer counts to calculated Fajr, which this site uses as the end of Suhoor. Some printed timetables publish an earlier precautionary stop time; that is a local convention and should not be confused with a different astronomical Fajr calculation.
Time-zone changes
If you travel or manually enter coordinates for another location, confirm the time-zone field as well. The same latitude/longitude interpreted with the wrong zone can produce a clock time that is internally inconsistent even if the underlying solar calculation is correct.
When the timer reaches zero
Use the timetable you have chosen for worship. A browser countdown can be interrupted by sleeping tabs, device clock changes or power-saving behaviour, so the displayed Fajr time remains more important than a second-by-second animation.
Use the clock as a planning aid
The countdown targets the calculated Fajr for the selected location and method. If your mosque publishes an earlier precautionary stop for eating, that is a separate local timetable choice and should not be silently substituted for astronomical Fajr.
Location and daylight saving
The selected IANA time zone determines the civil-time conversion. This avoids retaining the visitor’s browser offset when the user is checking another city.
When the countdown ends
Do not wait for the last displayed second to finish a meal. Network-free calculation reduces dependency on an API, but device clocks can still be wrong. Use a reliable local timetable and reasonable margin for real-world practice.
Frequently asked questions
How many minutes before Fajr should I stop?
The fast begins at Fajr itself. Many timetables print an imsak time about ten minutes earlier as a voluntary precaution.
What if I ate after Fajr by mistake?
Whoever eats or drinks forgetfully should complete the fast; the Prophet ﷺ said Allah fed him and gave him drink (Sahih al-Bukhari 1933).
