The musaharati still walks the streets before dawn in parts of the Levant, Egypt and South Asia, waking people for suhoor. Cannon fire marks Iftar in several Gulf and North African cities. Community Iftars in mosques are close to universal, and in many places the invitation extends well beyond the congregation.

If you will be travelling during Ramadan 2027, check the local start date rather than assuming your home country’s, and remember that the concession for travellers is a genuine one: both fasting and postponing are permitted, and where the journey causes hardship, not fasting is better (Sahih al-Bukhari 1946).
