Ramadan 2027 Fasting Hours
What determines the length of a fast
The fast runs from the entry of Fajr to sunset, so its length is set by three things: your latitude, the time of year, and the calculation method your community follows for Fajr. Nothing else changes it — the number of hours is not a religious choice.
February and March 2027
Ramadan 1448 falls in late winter in the northern hemisphere and late summer in the southern. That means northern countries get some of their shorter fasts of the cycle, while southern countries such as Australia, South Africa, Argentina and Chile get some of their longer ones.
Roughly what to expect
- Near the equator — around 12 to 13 hours, more or less unchanged all year.
- Mid-latitude northern countries in February — typically shorter than their annual average.
- Mid-latitude southern countries in February — typically longer than their annual average.
- High latitudes — the widest variation, and the reason scholars have issued specific rulings for places where the sun barely sets or barely rises.
Rather than publishing a table of rough figures, the city pages on this site calculate the exact duration for each of the thirty days from the coordinates and time zone of that city. Open your city page for the real numbers.
Very long and very short days
Where day and night cannot be distinguished in the normal way, or where the daylight period becomes extreme, fiqh councils have permitted estimating the times from the nearest location with a normal day, or from Makkah. Communities in those regions should follow the guidance of their own scholars.
Why your timetable may differ from a neighbour’s
Fajr and Isha depend on a chosen twilight angle, and methods such as Muslim World League, Umm al-Qura, ISNA and University of Karachi define it differently. A few minutes’ difference between two printed timetables for the same city is normal and reflects the method, not an error.
On the dates: every date on this page is an astronomical projection based on the Umm al-Qura calendar. The observed start of Ramadan is decided by the sighting of the crescent moon or by the announcement of the relevant authority in each country, and can differ by a day. Follow your local mosque or national committee for the binding date.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my Sehri time different from another website?
Almost always the calculation method. Fajr and Isha depend on a twilight angle that differs between methods; Dhuhr and Maghrib do not.
Does the fast get longer during the month?
Slightly, by a minute or two a day, as the daylight period changes through the season.
What is imsak on some timetables?
A precautionary few minutes before Fajr. The limit in the Shari‘ah is the entry of Fajr itself.
