Daily Ramadan Checklist
A workable day
This is a template, not a rule. Adjust it to your own timetable, and treat the obligatory items as the floor and everything else as optional.
Before dawn
- Suhoor, eaten late
- Intention for the fast (an act of the heart — Sunan Abi Dawud 2454)
- Fajr in its time
- Optional: a short portion of Qur’an while the house is quiet
Through the day
- Dhuhr and Asr in their times
- Guard the tongue — the fast is about conduct, not only food (Sahih al-Bukhari 1903)
- Optional: a set daily portion of Qur’an
- Optional: one act of charity, however small
Evening
- Du‘a in the minutes before Maghrib
- Iftar — dates and water, the reported supplication, then Maghrib, then the meal
- Isha, and Taraweeh where you can
- Witr to close the night prayers
Keeping it honest
A checklist is useful until it becomes a source of guilt. If a day goes badly, the obligatory prayers and the fast are what matter; the rest is voluntary and can be picked up the next day.
Tracking
The fasting tracker and planner tools on this site keep a private record in your own browser. Nothing is uploaded, and clearing your browser data clears the record.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to pray Taraweeh every night?
No. Taraweeh is voluntary. Praying some nights, or praying at home, is entirely valid.
What if I miss a day of my Qur’an schedule?
Continue from where you are. A schedule is a tool, not an obligation.
Is it better to pray Taraweeh at home or the mosque?
Both are valid. Praying with the imam until he finishes is recorded as praying the whole night (Jami‘ at-Tirmidhi 806), but circumstances differ and neither is required.
