Zakat al-Fitr Calculator
One sa‘ of the local staple food for every member of the household.
Zakat al-Fitr must reach the poor before the Eid prayer (Sahih al-Bukhari 1503, Sunan Abu Dawud 1609). Follow the amount announced by your local scholars where it differs.
What Zakat al-Fitr is
Zakat al-Fitr is a charity due from every Muslim who has food beyond their need on the day of Eid — including children and dependants. Ibn ‘Umar reported that the Prophet ﷺ made it obligatory as one sa‘ of dates or one sa‘ of barley upon every Muslim, and ordered that it be paid before the people go out to the Eid prayer (Sahih al-Bukhari 1503).
How to use the calculator
- Choose your currency.
- Enter the number of people in your household, including infants.
- Select the staple food you would give; one sa‘ is roughly 2.04 kg of wheat flour, 2.5 kg of rice or up to 3 kg of dates and barley.
- Enter the local price per kilogram; the total is calculated for the whole household.
When and to whom
It must reach the poor before the Eid prayer; paying during the last days of Ramadan is fine and is safer. Many communities publish a fixed per-head amount — where they do, use that figure.
