Tahajjud and Last Third of the Night Calculator

Ramadan 2027 tool

Tahajjud & Last Third Calculator

Divide the local night from Maghrib to the following Fajr and see when its final third begins.

What the tool calculates

The night is measured from local Maghrib to the following Fajr. The calculator divides that interval into three equal portions and shows when the final third begins. It is a time-planning aid, not a claim that voluntary prayer is restricted to one exact minute.

Why location matters

The result changes with latitude, date, time zone and the selected Fajr method. If your mosque follows a different Fajr convention, use the same method you rely on for prayer so that the night interval is internally consistent.

How the final third is calculated

The tool measures the interval from Maghrib on the selected civil date to Fajr on the following date. If that interval is nine hours, each third is three hours and the final third begins six hours after Maghrib. Daylight-saving transitions are handled through the selected time zone.

What the result does not mean

Voluntary night prayer is not restricted to the displayed final-third start. Tahajjud can be prayed during the night after Isha; the final third is highlighted because of its special virtue in Islamic teaching.

High-latitude limitation

If normal Maghrib or Fajr cannot be calculated for the selected place/date, the tool refuses to fabricate the interval and points the user to local high-latitude guidance.

How the final third is derived

The calculator measures the elapsed time from Maghrib on the selected date to Fajr on the following local date, including any midnight or daylight-saving transition handled by the selected time zone. Two thirds of that interval are added to Maghrib to show the start of the final third.

Why Fajr method affects the result

If two timetables use different Fajr angles, they define a different endpoint for the night calculation and therefore a different final-third boundary. Compare the setting shown by the tool with the timetable you follow.

Do not treat the boundary as a deadline

Night prayer can be offered before the final third as well. The output is useful for planning a preferred late-night period, but it does not imply that worship a minute before the displayed time has no value.
