Ramadan 2027 Moon Sighting and Start Dates

Projection is not an official announcement

Astronomical calculations can estimate when the new crescent may be visible, but communities do not all use the same legal or astronomical criterion. Some authorities require a local or national sighting, some accept verified sightings from a wider region, and some publish calendars based mainly on calculation. For that reason this site labels 8 February 2027 as a planning projection rather than a universal religious ruling.

What to check in your country

Before Ramadan begins, check the announcement of the recognised authority, mosque network or scholarly body you normally follow. A useful announcement should identify the evening of observation and state whether the month begins the following day. If an authority changes the date after a sighting report, the authority’s announcement takes precedence over this planning calendar for users who follow it.

Why two places may start on different days

Differences can arise from horizon visibility, weather, acceptance of remote sightings and different jurisprudential criteria. A one-day difference does not necessarily mean that one timetable has a calculation error. The date question and the daily prayer-time calculation are separate: once the first fast is known, the city timetable still depends on coordinates, time zone and the selected Fajr/Isha method.

Visibility depends on more than conjunction

The astronomical new moon (conjunction) is not the same event as first naked-eye crescent visibility. Elongation, moon altitude, age, local horizon, atmosphere and the criterion used all matter. That is why a conjunction timestamp alone cannot settle every community’s religious start date.

Country authority directory

Where the site names an authority, link to the authority’s own announcement or official calendar rather than a news article summarising it. Keep the authority and the site’s projection visually separate.

Frequently asked questions

Is 8 February 2027 guaranteed to be the first fast everywhere?

No. It is a planning projection used by this site. Follow the recognised authority or mosque you normally use when an official local decision is announced.

Why can Eid also differ by a day?

Eid begins with Shawwal, whose start can be determined under the same kinds of sighting or calendar rules used at the beginning of Ramadan.
