What Is Laylat al-Qadr?
The Night of Decree
“Indeed, We sent it down during the Night of Decree. And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. The angels and the Spirit descend therein… Peace it is until the emergence of dawn” (Qur’an 97:1–5).
Better than a thousand months
A thousand months is over eighty-three years — worship in this single night outweighs a lifetime of nights. It is the night the Qur’an began to be revealed.
Its reward
“Whoever stands in prayer on Laylat al-Qadr out of faith and seeking reward will have his previous sins forgiven” (Sahih al-Bukhari 2014).
What the Qur’an says
Surah al-Qadr describes the night as better than a thousand months and associates it with the descent of the angels and peace until dawn. The Qur’an does not give a Gregorian date for it.
What the hadith adds
Authentic reports direct Muslims to seek it in the last ten nights, especially the odd nights. That evidence supports a search window, not an algorithm that can guarantee a single night years in advance.
Why “better than a thousand months” matters
The verse communicates extraordinary spiritual value; it is not an invitation to calculate a cash-equivalent or exact numerical multiplier for every individual act. Keep the scriptural wording intact rather than converting it into invented reward formulas.
Connection to revelation
Laylat al-Qadr is tied in the Qur’an to revelation and the descent of the angels. That context is more informative than presenting the night mainly as a date-search problem.
What the Qur’an establishes
Surah al-Qadr describes the Night of Decree as better than a thousand months and speaks of the descent of the angels and peace until dawn. Those are stronger foundations than later folklore about guaranteed physical signs.
When to seek it
Authentic hadith direct Muslims to seek Laylat al-Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramadan and particularly the odd nights. The exact civil dates depend on the Ramadan start observed locally.
What the site does not claim
No calculator can prove in advance which night is Laylat al-Qadr. Date tools can map the possible nights to a civil calendar; they cannot turn a recommended search window into a certainty.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the exact night hidden?
Scholars say it is concealed so that believers exert themselves across all ten nights rather than only one.
